At the start of this year, I was really thinking about what kind of images I wanted to produce, and, after shooting constantly for my Novella series, I decided that it would be great to continue working on some model tests and develop my portrait and fashion portfolio is bit more.
I had taken quite an unintended hiatus, and the last time I had shot a model was back in November 2016, for Named Models, s o I was actually quite anxious about getting back into the swing of contacting models and arranging shoots.
As usual, I put several casting calls out on Model Mayhem, for both London and Birmingham, deciding that these would be my go-to cities for shoots. Whilst doing this, I also decided to give Starnow another try. I’d previously used it to find MUA’s a long time ago and I remembered that it wasn’t too bad of a website for finding good talent.
As I was going through the site, I realised that actually, it would be extremely useful as it provided me with a great variety of models in the West Midlands, where I’m based, which meant that I didn’t have to necessarily have to keep travelling all the way to London, saving me both time and money. During my several searches, and after putting out a couple of casting calls, I contacted Kadeem, who is actually from London, and asked if he was interested in doing a shoot.
One of the reasons I wanted to become a photographer is because I’ve always wanted a career in which I could travel to different cities with a purpose, so when Kadeem and I agreed on collaborating on a shoot, I decided that it might be a good idea to do it over in Leamington Spa, a city which I had never been to before. I always love travelling to a place I’ve never been to before for a shoot, as you never know what will happen, and what kind of scenery to expect!
Luckily, Kadeem agreed to the location, and we set a date for April, hoping that the weather wouldn’t be as terrible as it had been.
Having not shot anything for quite awhile, I was actually quite nervous about this shoot, but I really didn’t need to be. Kadeem was an amazing model who really knew what he wanted from the shoot, and was very open to different posing suggestions. He was very easy to work with and I’m really happy with the images we produced!
